Palm Springs has become something of a media darling recently, as its mountain-flanked scenery and sparkling swimming pools have been splashed across the pages of publications near and far, all declaring the city to be new again, hot again, and making its triumphant return thanks to a fresh crop of hotels, restaurants, and hip residents. But desert die-hards know that Palm Springs still has the same magical allure it’s always had, and has been slowly growing its food scene for years now, building up to its current extensive roster of restaurants.
Here now, a list of 17 restaurants — both brand-spanking new venues and longstanding favorites — to consider for the next dinner in SoCal’s favorite vacation town.
#15 – 533 Viet Fusion
After expanding the space to include a lounge and spring roll bar (and more recently, changing the name from Pho 533), owner Chad Gardner has fortified the menu with entrees like chile-braised osso bucco and a play on ramen with red curry and Tiger shrimp. But there’s still plenty of pho to go around, of course, including a tri-tip version and a full-on vegetarian soup. The restaurant also does an excellent job with takeout, perfect for dinner in at the vacation rental.
